Block Party

So over the weekend, I went on a very last-minute, spur-of-the-moment trip to Seattle for Capitol Hill Block Party. I had been hoping to go before my move but it turned out to be too expensive...or so I thought. I was lucky enough to procure a 3-day pass for about 1/3 of the price, and I caught a ride with my incredible friend, Celeste. Unfortunately I missed Friday and consequently two performances that I really wanted to see -Youth Lagoon and Father John Misty. But I'll catch them another time.

Saturday was a blast. I'd never listened to Beat Connection but their set was surprisingly good. Grimes fulfilled all expectations -the girl rules. And I caught bits and pieces of other performances -ended the night with Major Lazer and a sweaty dancey crowd.

Sunday was the day that I really wanted to go -a bunch of performances I wanted to catch were happening really closely to one another. The highlight was definitely seeing The Lumineers. They're a band from Colorado (the state I hail from) and they have an incredible folky sincerity that just made me smile the entire show. Overall it was a whirlwind of a weekend. Until next time have a looksee at some of my pictures and check out a few music videos by my favorite performers.

Feeling Fall-like

After a weekend spent in Seattle where the weather ranged from hot and sunny to cloudy and breezy, and waking up to a particularly damp, gray morning, I'm feeling kind of ready for fall. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that as soon as the sun starts shining again, I'm going to be glad that it's still summer and that there is still plenty of time for bikinis and lakes and shorts and rolled up sleeves; but for now, I'm day dreaming about the crisp PNW fall -scarves, boots, puddles, coats, hats, and hoods and hot lattes and caramel apple cider keeping chilly hands warm. Here are a few fashion-y things I'm wishing for.

a minty blouse -i'm adoring all of the fun details on blouses: studs and metal tips on corners (not together) are my favorite.
camel booties -maybe without the wedge, the rain would be harsh to the suede
over-the-knee socks to keep cozy and to peek out over the tops of boots
awesome sweaters to be paired with t-shirts, skirts, over dresses, or with a classic button down
boots -i've had my eye on hunters since the spring... they're perfect for the weather up here

Whoops

So obviously, my new years resolution of posting on this more regularly did not work out. There's still six months for that to change though! Let me catch you (if anyone really reads this) up on what's been going on:

I finished my junior year at Western Washington University and in doing so completed junior portfolio within the Design department. This was probably one of the most stressful things I have ever been through -we (the juniors) had to create portfolios on top of our coursework, submit them for review, and anxiously awaited the news of if we passed and got into our desired concentration or any concentration for that matter. I'm happy to report that I got into my first choice: Design Production. So I will be making books, learning about printing techniques, color use, file management, packaging, design, design, design, all next year. I couldn't be more excited.

I procured not one but two internships. (Check) One is at a local music venue/bar here in Bellingham, designing show posters here and there and for the other I get to travel to my home state and live with one of my best and oldest friends for a month while I work for a ski publication. I'm excited to gain experience and to be closer to my friends and family.

I learned how to code websites. jQuery, HTML, CSS, the whole shebang. Bam!

and...

I'm about to move into my own one bedroom apartment. I CAN'T WAIT. I think I'll be a lot happier living on my own, making my own messes, noise, space, it's a very exciting prospect.

Now one of my other resolutions was to take more photos -I've been more or less successful in that but more could always be taken. One of these days I'll get an iPhone and instagram EVERYTHING. Until next time, I leave you with these bits and pieces.
